Tim Smith is an American reality TV personality. He is best known for his role on the Discovery Channel docuseries “Moonshiners”.
The show follows the cast of the show as they make their moonshine in the backwoods of the United States, often in the woods, while avoiding the law. In reality, Smith makes his moonshine legally and sells it under the brand name Climax moonshine.
Smith learned how to shine from his father. As a young boy, he helped his father run a still, and at 5 years old, he even witnessed a police raid on the distillery. Smith went on to take over the family business when his father died.
Smith distilled illegal moonshine in the backwoods of Virginia, with his dogs keeping an eye on the law enforcement. Years later, he had a license to make and sell the product. In May 2013, he started selling his brand of moonshine, Climax, in Georgia and South Carolina, as well as in West Virginia and Tennessee. He has since expanded his brand to other states.
He has managed to keep his family’s 100-year-old moonshine recipe a secret while successfully turning it into a major national brand.
