A native of Washinton D.C., Daniel Mudd is the former President and CEO of Fannie Mae and the current C.E.O of Fortress Investment Group.
Mudd graduated with a B.A. degree in American history from the University of Virginia and an M.P.A. from the John F. Kennedy School of Government at Harvard University.
He was an officer in the United States Marine Corps and was decorated for his combat service in Beirut.
He has also worked as an advisor to Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) and has served on boards of the Council on Foreign Relations.
In addition, Mudd has also served on the boards of the National Building Museum, Hampton University, Local Initiatives Support Corporation The University of Virginia Board of Trustees, and the Sidwell Friends School.

He was also the primary anchor for The History Channel and was weekend and weekday substitute anchor for the CBS Evening News. Roger was also the co-anchor of the weekday NBC Nightly News, and the host of the NBC-TV Meet the Press and American Almanac TV programs.
His mother, Emma Jeanne Spears died in 2011 while his father Roger died on March 9, 2021, at the age of 93. He died at his home in McLean from complications of kidney failure.
