As of how Kreyol Essence came to be, Momperousse shared that she grew up using her mother’s supply of Haitian Black Castor Oil to keep her skin and hair healthy.
However, as she grew older, Momperousse realized that there was no way to get the oil in the United States. And thus the idea for a new company was born.
Talking about their products. she said; “Whether it’s moisturizing kinky curly hair, promoting thicker lashes or brows, or relieving dry itchy skin, we have the highest performing natural products for you.”
Momperousse also added that the products are also helpful in relieving symptoms of skin conditions like psoriasis or eczema.

Momperousse and her husband and co-founder Stephane Jean-Baptiste appeared on the show, Shark Tank, where they were able to negotiate a deal for $400,000 funding in exchange for a royalty of 25% in perpetuity and 5% equity in the company.
According to Shark Barbara Corcoran, the couple’s biggest strength was also their greatest weakness: Their product is too dependent on their sales pitch. “Your business is too dependent on you selling the product,” she said. “That’s just not scalable.”
Shark Lori Greiner was interested but their marketing approach raised several red flags. Other red flags included no clinical or laboratory testing to back up claims about their products, such as possible hair regrowth.
“When you put out anything like that to the consumer market, you really have to have a lot of proof backing that up,” Greiner told them.
