Steve Inskeep Biography
A native of Carmel, Indiana, Steve Inskeep is an American journalist working as the host of Morning Edition and Up First on National Public Radio.
Inskeep graduated from Carmel High School and later went on to join Morehead State University in Morehead, Kentucky. He graduated Phi Kappa Phi from Morehead State University in 1990.

Inskeep is the host of NPR’s Morning Edition and is also the co-host, of NPR’s morning news podcast Up First, along with Rachel Martin, David Greene, and Noel King.
He joined NPR in 1996 and that year his full-time assignment was the 1996 presidential primary in New Hampshire. Inskeep covered the Pentagon, the Senate, and the 2000 presidential campaign of George W. Bush.
Inskeep also covered the war in Afghanistan, turmoil in Pakistan, and the war in Iraq. In 2003, he received a National Headliner Award for investigating a military raid gone wrong in Afghanistan.
He has been part of two NPR News teams awarded the Alfred I. DuPont-Columbia University Silver Baton for coverage of Iraq.

“We walked into a provincial government office in Wuhan, where a sign on the wall read: “Thank you for all of the love Pouring on the Children.” A woman led us over to Ana Xiao, age 3 1/2. She smiled and said, “Baba!” the Chinese word for “Daddy,” and gave me a kiss on the cheek.
