Jamel Floyd Biography
Jamel Floyd was an African-American inmate at Brooklyn who died while in custody after he was sprayed with pepper by the staff according to Justice Department.
His death occurred during a time when there are ongoing protests against murders of African- Americans in the United States.

Jamel Floyd Death
Floyd died on June 3, 2020, after correctional officers at Metropolitan Detention Center sprayed him with pepper after he began becoming disruptive.
After he was sprayed with pepper, Floyd was unresponsive and he was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Brooklyn by Fire Department medics where he was declared dead.
A statement released by the Bureau of Prisons said; “Responding staff observed inmate Jamel Floyd barricaded inside his cell and breaking the cell door window with a metal object. He became increasingly disruptive and potentially harmful to himself and others. Pepper spray was deployed and staff removed him from his cell.”
Floyd had been in custody since October 2019. It is still not known what charges he was facing.

Jamel is not related to George Floyd, the 46-year-old African American man who died after police officer Derek Chauvin pressed his knee to Floyd’s neck for almost nine minutes.
