Coco Gauff, whose full name is Cori “Coco” Gauff, is a professional tennis player from the United States. She is from Delray Beach, Florida. She has been breaking records and barriers since she burst onto the scene as a 15-year-old at Wimbledon in 2019.

Gauff started playing tennis at age six after being inspired by watching Serena Williams on TV. She began competing in junior tournaments at age eight and won her first national title at age 10.

Gauff became the youngest player ever to qualify for Wimbledon’s main draw at age 15 in 2019. She also became the youngest WTA singles title winner since 2004 when she won the Linz Open later that year.

She is one of the youngest players ever to reach a Grand Slam singles final (at age 18 at the 2022 French Open), a Grand Slam doubles final (at age 17 at the 2021 US Open), a WTA 1000 singles title (at age 19 at the 2023 Cincinnati Masters), and the world No. 1 ranking in doubles (at age 18 in 2022).

Gauff made her debut at the US Open in 2018 when she received a wild card into the mixed doubles event with fellow junior Jay Clarke. They reached the second round, where they lost to eventual champions Jamie Murray and Bethanie Mattek-Sands.

In 2019, Gauff made her first appearance in the main draw of the US Open singles, after receiving a wild card. She advanced to the third round, where she faced world No. 1 and defending champion Naomi Osaka. Despite losing in straight sets, Gauff impressed with her composure and maturity and received a warm embrace from Osaka at the net.

In 2020, Gauff returned to the US Open as the No. 31 seed but was upset in the first round by Anastasija Sevastova in three sets.

Later in 2021, Ccoc had her best result at the US Open so far, reaching the semifinals in both singles and doubles. Gauff faced Karolina Muchova for the first time at the Australian Open 2023, where they met in the fourth round.

Gauff won the match in three sets, 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, to advance to her second quarterfinal at a Grand Slam.

She dominated the first set with her powerful groundstrokes and serve, breaking Muchova twice to take it 6-4.

Muchova fought back in the second set, using her variety and touch to disrupt Gauff’s rhythm. She broke Gauff twice to level the match at one set apiece.

The third set was a tight affair, with both players holding their serves until the eighth game. Gauff then made the decisive break with a forehand winner down the line and served out the match with an ace.

Gauff said after the match: “I’m really happy with how I played today. Karolina is a great player and she made me work hard for every point. I just tried to stay focused and aggressive throughout the match.”

Gauff complained to the umpire several times about Siegemund’s delay tactics, saying: “She’s been doing this since I was eight years old… This is just disrespectful.”

Siegemund denied any wrongdoing, saying: “I don’t care what she says. I’m not here to make friends… I’m here to play tennis.”
