A native of Virginia, U.S., Amna Nawaz is an American journalist. She is a correspondent for PBS NewsHour. 

Prior to joining PBS, Nawaz worked as a national correspondent for NBC News. She also worked as an anchor and correspondent for Al Jazeera America.

Amna began her journalism career at NBC in 2003 and later became part of Dateline NBC where she worked on documentaries. At NBC’s investigative unit, she was a producer of the Mortgage Crisis Investigations; which was nominated for a 2008 Emmy Award in Business and Financial Reporting.

In 2009, Nawaz received an International Reporting Project fellowship. In 2010, she won a News and Documentary Emmy Award for her work on the NBC News special, “Inside the Obama White House.” She later served as a correspondent and bureau chief at NBC’s Islamabad bureau.

Nawaz joined ABC News in 2015 where she anchored the 2016 and 2017 U.S. elections and national political coverage. She also hosted the ABC podcast series “Uncomfortable.”

In December 2019, Nawaz made history as the first Asian American and Muslim to moderate a U.S. Presidential debate when she co-moderated a Democratic Party Presidential debate.

She is a member of the Inter-American Dialogue, a think tank based in Washington D.C.
