She co-starred with Annaleigh Ashford, a rising star on the stage at the time (cast as Maureen) Rodriguez won the Clive Barnes Award in 2011 for her work.
Rodriguez took a break to transition after the off-Broadway revival of Hamilton ended in 2012. In early 2016, she started hormone replacement therapy. She reappeared in 2016 to begin a new chapter as a female actor. Nurse Jackie, The Carrie Diaries, and Luke Cage were among her small television appearances.
She was cast in the FX series Pose in the lead role of Blanca-Evangelista in 2017 alongside Angelica Ross. On the other hand, she is the first openly transgender woman to receive the Imagen Award for Best Actress – Television.
In addition, she made history as the first transgender woman of color to play Audrey in a major production when she took the lead in Pasadena Playhouse’s production of Little Shop of Horrors in the fall of 2019.
