Elvira previously worked as a television presenter for the Spanish-language network Telemundo for three decades after serving as a news anchor for Miami-based Mega TV.
Salazar holds a Bachelor of Arts in communications degree from the University of Miami. She also holds a Master’s degree in Public Administration from Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Elvira Salazar went ahead and won the seat by a 51.4% to 48.6% margin. She became one of 19 new Republican women elected to the House of Representatives in the 2020 elections.
Elvira was one of eleven Republicans who on February 4, 2021, voted to strip Marjorie Taylor Greene of her House Education and Labor Committee, and House Budget Committee assignments. This was in response to controversial statements she had made about school shootings at Parkland and Sandy Hook.
