A native of Enniskillen, Northern Ireland, Margaret Keenan is a British woman who became the first person in the world to receive the COVID-19 vaccine.

Margaret Keenan COVID-19 vaccine
Keenan became the first person in the world to receive e the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine outside of a clinical trial. This marked the start of the UK’s mass vaccination program.
The Vaccine was administered by May Parsons at the city’s University Hospital at 6.31 am on December 8, 2020.
Keenan said being the first was “a privilege” and the best early birthday present she could wish for since could spend time with her family and friends in the New Year. This is after being own for most of the year.
On what advice she could offer; she said; “My advice to anyone offered the vaccine is to take it – if I can have it at 90 then you can have it too!”
Keenan will receive a booster jab in 21 days to ensure she has the best chance of being protected against the virus.
Margaret Keenan Nurse
Nurse Mrs. Parsons was the first nurse to administer the vaccine. She said it was a huge honor to be the first in the country to deliver the vaccine to a patient.
“The last few months have been tough for all of us working in the NHS, but now it feels like there is light at the end of the tunnel,” she added.
Parsons is originally from the Philippines. She has worked in the NHS for the last 24 years. She has been at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire since 2003.
