Lonnie Dench was an American citizen, best known as the husband, of the grandmother, Wanda Dench, who accidentally sent a text to a teenager inviting him for thanksgiving.

Wanda and Jamal Hinton
Wanda and her husband Lonnie became well known after their story was aired. Back in 2016, Lonnie’s wife, Wanda, sent a thanksgiving text to the wrong person thinking it was his grandson. The teenager who received the text was 17 year old Jamal Hinton and even though the invitation was not meant for him, it still stood.
This would later turn out to be a routine for the family and the young man to spend thanksgiving together and form an amazing friendship that became one of the favorites for Americans ad many other people around the world. Their story became well known after Jamal, tweeted about their exchange.
Back then, Wanda revealed that she was embarrassed about the mix up. “I was totally embarrassed, and I didn’t know what to say at first. So I thought for a minute and I said, ‘Sure you can,’ I said. ‘That’s what grandmas do, they feed everybody.’”
As to why Wanda still went on to invite Jamal even though she knew he wasn’t his grandson, she said; “I wanted to get to know him because I liked my first impression of him. People are saying, ‘I have faith in humanity again.’ And I’m just thinking, ‘Wow!’”
Lonnie Dench COVID-19 and Death
On April 2, 2020, Jamal revealed on Twitter that both Wanda and Lonnie had tested positive for Coronavirus. He also revealed that Lonnie was hospitalized and was fighting pneumonia as well.
Unfortunately, Lonnie did not make it and he died on April 5, 2020. Jamal announced his death of Twitter.
“As some of you may have already found out tonight Lonnie did not make it… he passed away Sunday morning😔 but Wanda told me all the love and support he was receiving put a huge smile on his face so I thank every single one of you guys for that!🙏🏽❤️” the tweet read.
