Jovita Moore Biography

A native of New York, Jovita Moore is an American journalist working as an anchor for the 5 p.m., 6 p.m., and 11 p.m. newscasts on Channel 2 Action News (WSB-TV).

Moore graduated from Columbia University Graduate School of Journalism in New York City with a Master’s of Science Degree in Broadcast Journalism. She also has a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Bennington College in Bennington, Vermont.

Moore began her journalism career as a News reporter at KFMS-TV in Fayetteville, Arkansas. She later went on to work for three years at WMC-TV in Memphis, Tennessee.

Moore joined WSB-TV in 1998. She now anchors the 5, 6, and 11 pm on Channel 2, WSB-TV Action News.

She is a member of the Atlanta Association of Black Journalists and the National Association of Black Journalists. Jovita is also a member of Leadership Atlanta’s Class of 2007, and a member of Outstanding Atlanta’s Class of 2004.

In 2017, she was honored by The National Academy of Television Arts & Sciences Southeast Chapter with one of its most prestigious career awards, the induction into the Silver Circle.

Moore has also received several Emmy Awards during her years at WSB-TV. In 2007, she was featured on the 2007 list of 40 Under 40 by Georgia Trend Magazine and was selected as one of Jezebel magazine’s 50 Most Beautiful.

Moore shared her nearly 20-year struggle with uterine fibroids in 2017. Uterine fibroids are noncancerous growths of the uterus that often appear during childbearing years.

She eventually had a small invasive procedure to end the disorder.

On July, 29, 2021, Moore revealed that she had been diagnosed with glioblastoma, an aggressive form of brain cancer. Months ago in April, she underwent surgery after doctors found tumors in her brain.

Moore is undergoing treatment through radiation and chemotherapy at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta.

“She’s a very strong woman and is raising three very strong kids who are, we all are, right there with them,” said Condace Pressley, WSB-TV director of community affairs.
