Mile’s father, representative and civil rights leader John Lewis died on July 17, 2020, at the age of 80 years.

He announced that he had been diagnosed with stage IV pancreatic cancer on December 29, 2019, Talking about the diagnosis, Lewis said;

“I have been in some kind of fight – for freedom, equality, basic human rights – for nearly my entire life. I have never faced a fight quite like the one I have now.”
