A native of Chicago’s South Side, Jim Williams is an American weekend news anchor for WBBM-TV in Chicago; a CBS owned-and-operated television station.
Williams graduated from Kenwood High School in Chicago’s Hyde Park neighborhood. He, later on, joined Columbia College in Chicago where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in media management.
He has also served as Chicago Mayor Richard M. Daley’s press secretary from 1992 to 1997. His job was to supervise media relations throughout the city government.

In 2008, he briefly served as a weekday morning news anchor. He eventually returned to co-anchoring weekend evenings with Mai Martinez in September 2008.
Williams began his TV career in 1977 as a part-time news film librarian at WGN-TV in Chicago. While there, he worked as a writer, producer, and eventually, a reporter at the station. He spent 15 years at WGN before leaving the station in 1992 for a job in the city government.
