Jelani Day was an American 25-year-old Illinois State University graduate. He was reported missing by his family on August 25 in Blooming, Illinois.
His body was found floating in the Illinois River on September 4 and 19 days later it was identified by the LaSalle County Coroner on September 23. The identification was done through forensic dental identification and DNA testing and comparison.

Carmen Bolden has been on the first lane to make sure her son gets the justice he deserves. She has even called out authorities for mishandling and not prioritizing the investigation of her son’s disappearance.

Jelani was reported missing by his family on August 25 in Blooming, Illinois. This was two days after talking to his family. On September 4th his body was found floating in the Illinois River. It was after 19 days that they got to identify his body.
His body was identified by the LaSalle County Coroner on September 23 and was done through forensic dental identification and DNA testing and comparison. It was reported that he was last seen at the Illinois State University on August 24, 2021. His last location was at Beyond Hello, in Bloomington.
His car was found in Peru, Illinois by the Peru Police Department. There was an uproar on social media about how long it took to identify Day’s body. In response, Illinois State Police Sargent Joey Watson said that cases are prioritized in laboratories depending on different things such as; whether it is a violent crime or a property crime, or an upcoming court date.
On October 9, his family, friends, and hundreds of community members gathered to celebrate his life and paid tributes to him.
Jelani Day Cause Of Death
On September 4th Jelani’s body was found floating in the Illinois River. After 19 days on September 23, the LaSalle County Coroner identified his body through forensic dental identification and DNA testing and comparison. Even after his body was found, the police still have no clue about the cause of Jelani’s death and are still doing their investigation.
