Jacob Blake Biography
Jacob Blake is an African American man from Kenosha, Wisconsin, who was shot at close proximity by two Wisconsin police officers.
He was shot seven times as he entered the driver’s side of his SUV.
Jacob Blake Shooting
The Blake shooting incident happened on August 23rd, 2020 at Kenosha, Wisconsin, after officers were called to a domestic incident about 5:11 p.m. It is said that Blake was leaving the scene after “breaking up a fight between two women.”
A video was shared on social media, showing the events that led to the shooting. In the video, Blake can be seen walking towards the front of a gray SUV. Two police officers can be seen behind him. As Blake is entering the driver’s side door, one police officer grabs his gun and shoots. Seven shots are heard.
According to attorney Ben Crump and the American Civil Liberties Union, Blake’s three sons were amongst the witnesses of the shooting.
Blake is now said to be in a serious condition at the Kenosha hospital fighting or his life. He is in the Intensive Care Unit.
Jacob Blake Protests
After the shooting, protesters broke windows and sprayed graffiti at a Kenosha County administrative building overnight. They also torched vehicles at a nearby auto dealership.
According to CNN’s affiliate WISN, a fire was also started at a county courthouse, and officers in tactical gear formed a line to protect a public safety building.
Police Officers Who Shot Jacob Blake on Administrative Leave
Two of the police officers who were involved in Blake’s shooting are on administrative leave. This is according to the Wisconsin Department of Justice’s division of criminal investigation.
“DCI is continuing to review the evidence and determine the facts of this incident and will turn over investigative reports to a prosecutor following a complete and thorough investigation,” read the statement.
It is not clear whether both of them opened fire or if it was just one of them. Neither of them has been identified either.
