Isan Elba Golden Globe Ambassador

Elba was 2019’s Golden Globe Ambassador. It was formerly known as Miss or Mister Golden Globe but HFPA rebranded and expanded the role in order to help recognize the HFPA’s philanthropic efforts throughout the year.

Isan was to hand out the trophies to eventual winners of the 76th Annual Golden Globes and was also tasked with bringing awareness to a cause of her choosing.

She made her first red carpet appearance in 2007 with her father at the premiere of Tyler Perry’s Daddy’s Little Girls. She later attended several red carpets with her dad, including the 2015 Academy Awards.

While growing up, Isan wanted to become an actress. However, after her father directed the film Yardie, her career interest switched and started considering film directing.

Isan Elba Philanthropy

Isan is passionate about mental health. When asked why she chose mental health as her philanthropic effort, she said; My mom suffers from mental illness and being able to have this platform and talk about something that I care about and that hits home, was really like, “Yes, I have to do this.”

“It’s something I care about and like I said, using your influence to talk about something you care about or an issue that needs to be fixed, I thought it was the perfect opportunity. And after this, I will still continue to advocate for mental health. And in the African-American community and among teenagers, because I’m both, and it’s such taboo in both communities.”
