Flanigan auditioned on season 19 of The Voice singing Zac Brown Band’s “Colder Weather” and eventually joined Team Blake Shelton.
He received a lot of praise from the judges after his battle against singer Aaron Scott. They performed Creedance Clearwater Revival’s “Have You Ever Seen the Rain” and Blake was full of praise. He said;
“With Ian, I felt like it was so much identity and character in your voice.” John Legend went on to add to the praise saying; “The rasp, the gravel, that was more compelling for me. I would lean toward Ian more if I were Blake.”
