Iam Tongi crowned Season 21 Winner of American Idol

American Idol Season 21

The 21st season of American Idol came to an end on Sunday night, May 21, 2023. The winner was Iam Tongi, an 18-year-old singer from Hawaii. Tongi beat out Megan Danielle and Colin Stough, who placed second and third, respectively.

Tongi impressed the judges and viewers with his powerful voice and emotional performances throughout the season. He sang his original song “I’ll Be Seeing You” in the finale, which he dedicated to his father, who passed away months before his audition.

Tongi also shared the stage with James Blunt, one of his musical inspirations, and sang Blunt’s song “Monsters”, which he had performed in his audition. The song, which is about a father-son relationship, moved everyone to tears, including Tongi himself.

The judges praised Tongi for his talent and charisma and said he had a bright future ahead of him. Katy Perry called him “an undeniable character” with “an incredible magic”.

Luke Bryan said he had a “great voice” and did “everything perfectly”. Lionel Richie said he was “very proud” of him and his father was too.

Tongi thanked his family, friends, fans, and God for supporting him and helping him achieve his dream. He said he was grateful for the opportunity to be on American Idol and to share his music with the world. He also congratulated his fellow finalists and said they were all amazing.

Tongi is the first American Idol winner from Hawaii, and the second youngest winner in the show’s history. He joins a list of successful artists who have won the show, such as Kelly Clarkson, Carrie Underwood, Jordin Sparks and Phillip Phillips.

Tongi will now embark on a recording career and release his debut album later this year. He will also perform on various shows and events, including the American Idol Live Tour, which will kick off in July.
