She is also the president of Hilary Farr’s Designs, established in Toronto and in New York City. Farr attended Ryerson University in Toronto, Ontario for an Interior Designing Course.

She later learned that radiation was essential to reduce the risk of recurrence, and she was furious at the medical error that could have cost her life. She started radiation treatment in 2015, but soon after, she faced another scare when doctors discovered another precancerous growth in her breast.

Farr had a third lumpectomy and has been in remission since then. She decided to share her story to encourage other women to get regular mammograms and not to be afraid of facing the diagnosis. Farr also advised against keeping the illness a secret or trying to cope alone, as she did while filming her show Love It or List It.
