Shirley was in a relationship with 16 & Pregnant star, Amber Portwood since 2007. He made his debut along with his then-girlfriend, Amber on the series 16 & Pregnant.
They later got engaged on the beach during a short vacation. By then, Amber was pregnant at the early age of 18 and on 12 November 2008, she gave birth to a girl named Leah Leann Shirley.
Domestic Abuse
Their happiness was however shortlived as Amber was arrested on a domestic assault charge. This was after she was seen shoving, punching, slapping and choking Gary in front of their newly born baby on their other show Teen Mom.
Shirley was made the primary custodian of their daughter, Leah after she was sent jail for the use of drugs in 2012.
After Amber’s release in 2016, the court decided that Shirley would retain primary physical custody and receive $1200 per month from Amber for the support of their seven years old daughter.
Shirley, in Early 2018, took a dig at Amber and commented on her relationship with Andrew.
Amber went on and stated on Twitter that Andrew was the reason she pulled herself up. Shirley apologized for his comments later in March and asked for forgiveness.
Amber Portwood Arrested Again
Amber was arrested again on Friday, July 5, 2019, in Indiana, and charged with domestic battery. She’s alleged to assaulted her boyfriend, Andrew Glennon, while he was holding their child.
Shirley took to Twitter and expressed well wishes for the mother of his daughter.
He wrote; “My prayers are with @AmberLPortwood, Andrew, & most importantly baby James, idk any of the particulars, however I’m thinking of them. And for all the questions and concerns Leah was/is currently camping with her best friend.”
