Fred Blankenship Biography
A native of Los Angeles, Fred Blankenship is an American journalist anchoring for Channel 2 Action News at Noon and Channel 2 Action News from 4:30 a.m. to 7 a.m.
Blankenship graduated from the University of San Francisco. He is a member of the National Association of Black Journalists as well as a member of the National Press Photographers Association.
Fred Blankenship WSB-TV
Blankenship began his career at KRON in San Francisco where he was apart of a team that received the prestigious Edward R. Murrow award for a documentary. The documentary, “About Race”, was a study of cultural and social behaviors of different ethnic groups.
Fred later joined KAKE TV in Wichita, Kansas where he chased storms on a regular basis developing expertise at covering severe weather.
He joined WSB-TV in 2007 from San Diego’s KGTV as a reporter and weekend anchor where he had worked for 6 years. While in Sandiego, Fred won awards for stories on drug prevention and community outreach. He also covered the Democratic National Convention in Boston in 2004.
At WSB-TV Blankenship has done special reports on Georgia’s water crisis comparing how the two states tackle water issues. Fred has also written and produced special assignment news series and has been a part of Prime Time Action News projects.
