As a musician, Martin is multitalented. He plays guitar as well as drums. He was seen playing drums in a youtube video while performing lead vocals with the band All for Patricia while performing a cover of Buwan.
Martin is also a member of a band known as The Aura, which is based out of San Francisco. In the band, he plays drums and is a vocalist. Members of the band are Tiffany Carandang, the lead vocalist, Lyndon Delago, who plays the guitar and offers up vocals, Ulysses, who plays the bass and is a vocalist, and Ricky, who plays the keyboard.

Martin auditioned for American Idol with his rendition of “Alaska” by Maggie Rogers. Before performing he was so nervous and this had judges Lionel Richie and Luke try to calm him. He eventually performed the song and blew the judges away with his amazing voice. Martin also performed an original song he had written about his friend.
He managed to impress all the three judges and eventually was given a ticket to Hollywood. Judge Katy Perry was particularly impressed by his voice and she told that he was top 10 material.

During Hollywood round, Martin was shown to the “Singer-Songwriter” category of the Genre Challenge. In that category, he was alongside Sofia Schuster, Adam Curry, Jonny West, and Dillon James.
Martin sang “Hold Back the River” by James Bay and advanced. He was later paired with Louis Knight for a duet and they sang “Break Even” by The Script. They both advanced.
After his solo performance, Martin was placed in the same deliberation room together with Jonny West, Arthur Gunn, and Sophia Wackerman. Other in the same room were Franklin Boone, Makayla Phillips, Kimmy Gabriela, DeWayne Crocker Jr., Cyniah Elise, and Lauren Mascitti. Everyone in the room advanced.
