During her American Idol Audition, Fire performed “Talking to the Moon” by Bruno Mars for the judges Katy Perry, Luke Bryan, and Lionel Richie. While they praised her voice and personality, they felt she needed more confidence and polish.
Katy Perry gave her some vocal tips and encouraged her to embrace her full voice instead of slipping into falsetto.
However, none of the judges gave voted yes to sending her to the next round. Fire broke down in tears as she hugged her daughter, who had been watching from backstage with host Ryan Seacrest.
In a heartbreaking moment, her daughter, Maja, grabbed a golden ticket from the wall and handed it to her mom, saying “I think I found this”. Fire told her daughter to put it back, as she did not earn it.
However, something unexpected happened. Katy Perry decided to break the rules and give Fire another chance. She offered her a second audition in Nashville at a later date, saying “some way or somehow you will find whatever you’re looking for”. Fire accepted the offer gratefully, saying “I don’t want it. I need it”.
