Beasley received his B.S. in Meteorology from the University of Oklahoma. He also received a Master’s degree in Geosciences with an emphasis in Broadcast Meteorology from Mississippi State University. He also holds the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist (CBM) seal from the American Meteorological Society (One of the first 100 seal holders in the country) and the Seal of Approval for Television from the National Weather Association.

In December 2015, Derek joined the Fox 4 News team as a meteorologist. Prior to joining Fox 4, Beasley, was working with WPMI-TV as the chief meteorologist in NBC 15 working at the station for 6 years. He also worked at WLWT-TV News 5 in Cincinnati, Ohio as a morning meteorologist in December 2005.
He was promoted within a year to chief meteorologist by January 2007. Derek also worked as a weekend meteorologist and weather producer at KHBS/KHOG-TV. He began his career as a staff meteorologist for WCBI-TV in 2003.
