Coleman is a contestant on season 19 of American Idol which premiered on February 14, 2021. During the auditions, she sang ‘The Way It Was’ by The Killers. The judges were so impressed they had her play another song on the piano.

According to Lionel Richie, Cassandra’s performance was as “angelic as it’s gonna get,” while Luke Bryan said she’s “a new voice the world has never heard before.”

Lionel also had some advice for Cassandra telling her to remember this one thing: “Life begins at the end of your comfort zone.”

During the Hollywood Round, Coleman was shown in the “Indie-Folk” category of the Genre Challenge, alongside Christina Daugherty, Hunter Metts, and Graham DeFranco.
