Casey Goodson Jr. Biography

Casey Goodson Jr. was a black American young man who was shot and killed by a Sheriff’s Deputy as he entered his home on December 4, 2020.

According to his family, Goodson was carrying a Subway sandwich and was on his way back from the dentist’s office when he was shot.

Goodson was the oldest of 10 children and was a father figure to his siblings. Members of his family were in the house when he got shot.

His mother goes by the name Tamala Payne on Facebook. She shared details of how her son was shot. In a Facebook post, she said her son was shot infront of his; “5-year-old brother, 3-4-year-old cousins, 72-year-old grandmother, sister uncle and other cousins.”

“My brother literally walked across the yard, walked into the back fence to get to the side door, had his Subway and mask in one hand keys in the other, unlocked and opened the door and stepped in the house before shooting him.”

“If he was such a threat, why did you wait so long to shoot?! Why did you kill a man walking into his own home?! He just wanted to enjoy his subway after leaving the dentist’s office and now my 23-year-old brother will never be able to live his life, to have a family, nothing!

They took a man’s future from him and changed all of ours. This is just really unbelievable. My outlook o life has completely changed.”

Franklin County sheriff Statement

According to the Franklin County sheriff’s office, the officer who shot Casey is Jason Meade, a 17-year veteran of the force. He was assigned full time to a U.S. Marshals Service fugitive task force at the time of the incident.

After the shooting, the Sherriff released a statement on Twitter that read; “A 17-year veteran FCSO Deputy assigned full time to the US Marshal Task Force was involved in the deadly shooting of a 23-year old man Friday afternoon.

“The US Marshal’s Office says the suspect’s weapon was recovered at the scene. The shooting remains under investigation.”
