Gomez later relocated from sunny L.A. to cloudy Eugene, Oregon as a reporter/producer and she quickly focused her talents toward the weather as she was able to combine her love of science and journalism.
In September 2017, she joined Newsline on NHK World-Japan. She worked there as a morning meteorologist, replacing Robert Speta until January 2019. She also would occasionally report from the field. While at NHK, Gomez forecasted weather on a global scale covering typhoons, monsoons, volcanoes, tornadoes, floods, and even fires.
